Emma Erskine from Jesters Mixed Martial Arts Clubs fought at the 'Stand and Deliver' invitation kickboxing show held at Kirk Hallam Social Club last saturday evening. In front of a packed hall Emmas entered the ring to face her opponent 22 year old Steph Young from the Tyne and Wear based East Coast Kickboxing Academy. Each of the girls have held numerous national titles and on paper it looked a perfect match for the 3 round contest.

Both girls started the first round determined to stamp their authority on the fight with Emma trading her strong kicks with the Tyne and Wear fighters punches but by the end of the round it was Emma who edging ahead. She continued the second round at her usual relentless pace and soon had her opponent on the canvas after an excellent combination of kicks and punches. Despite a warning from the refree for excessive power Emma continued to dominate the fight with a display of controlled kickboxing landing shots where and when she chose. The fight was all but over in the third but credit is due to her opponent for completing the fight on a night when many didn't.

Coach Mark Ball commented after the fight 'Emma deserves these wins with the amount of work she puts in at the gym. I don't think there are many other girls on the circuit who can compete with her at the moment'.

"Jesters Mixed Martial Arts Club recently attended a local interclub kickboxing competition at Burton. The competition was held under BLCC rules which involves light contact fighting over 3 three one minute rounds which favours the more skillful and fittest fighters.
Three juniors and two of the more experienced members of the club attended the competition and they all put up creditable performances against strong opposition. Performance of the day came from junior Jack Truswell who showed the improvement he has made in recent months. Coming out very strong from the bell he had the upper hand over his opponent for all three rounds. Zoe Spencer and ‘Chuckie’ Spencer both came up against more experienced opponents and narrowly lost out on their decisions.
Final fight of the day for JMMAC was Emma Erskine in a demonstration bout against Georgina Smedley from Wirksworth based DKA Club. Both girls fought hard and showed great technique over the three rounds.
New members are always welcome at the club whether it is to compete or to keep fit. The club is based in their own fully equipped gym at the rear of John Hadfield House, Dale Road, Matlock – for details contact Mark Ball on 07825 876177."

Jesters Mixed Martial Arts Club recently took part in a local interclub kickboxing competition held at Burton on Trent. With teams attending from a far afield as Cardiff it promised to be an exciting days fighting. The bouts were held under BLCC rules which involves light contact fighting over 3 three one minute rounds with scoring for both offencive and defensive fighting.
JMMAC were represented by 2 of their juniors and 2 of their more experienced members. 11 year old Tommy Paine was narrowly defeated in an excellent bout against a fighter from the midlands based Black Cobra gym. Both boys demonstrated a high level of skill and technique but it was the greater experience of Tommy’s opponent that clinched the fight.
Another of the clubs promising youngsters Jack Truswell had a successful day comfortably winning his first bout and then competing in a demonstration bout shortly after.
Joe Firth made a welcome comeback into the ring after a 9 month layoff with a demonstration bout against a much heavier fighter from Birminghams USKA gym. Joe showed his class with a display of fast sharp kickboxing that will boost his confidence for future competitions.
Final fight of the day for JMMAC was Emma Erskine who suffered at rare defeat at the hands of the host gyms Sophie Barnett. Despite being younger and giving away over 5kgs Emma nearly had the fight wrapped up. But a strong final round from the Burton girl denied Emma victory.
New members are always welcome at the club whether it is to compete or to keep fit. The club is based in their own fully equipped gym at the rear of John Hadfield House, Dale Road, Matlock – for details contact Mark Ball on 07825 876177.

The next generation of budding kickboxers from Jesters Mixed Martial Arts Club have been put through their paces at their recent grading day. In all 8 of the clubs Little Ninjas, who are aged between 4 to 8, took part where they were assessed on the techniques they have been learning each week. They all passed with credit and were presented with certificates.
JMMAC’s Little Ninjas coach Rohan Aked-Slack commented ‘All these youngsters demonstrated great focus and discipline throughout the grading and they all deserved to pass.’ It is hoped many of these students will soon be ready to move up to the Junior section of the club.

Older members of the club travelled down to Huntingdon Kickboxing Club to take part in an inter club challenge. Fighters from each club were paired off against each other in a low key sparring contest with points awarded to each winner. It was an ideal opportunity for the less experienced members of each club to enter the ring and compete for the first time. In all 11 of the clubs juniors and seniors took part including ring debuts for Trina Signey, Harry Mellor, Jon Green and Jack Woods. It was Trina and Jon who put in the best performances of the day showing composure and technique way beyond their novice status.

The Matlock club just came out on top 6-5 and were awarded the Challenge Shield in what was an excellent day’s competition. It is hoped this will become an annual event between the 2 clubs.

New students are always welcome to join the friendly atmosphere which JMMAC offers along with the chance to gain new skills in the form of a martial art. For more information please contact Rohan 07980 834574 or Mark Ball on 07825 876177.

Jesters Mixed Martial Arts Club recently hosted their annual kickboxing show at their Matlock Gym with clubs from across the midlands attending the event. With a packed house of spectators and over 70 fighters a full days entertainment was guaranteed. Highlight of the show was a BLCC Midlands title fight between JMMAC’s Luke Gladwin and Nathan Brown from the West Midlands Aerokick Gym. The contest was fought over 5 one and half minute rounds with the fighters very evenly matched. Luke put on a very controlled display making sure there was no excessive power in his kicks or punches. His opponent was equal to him throughout and it came as no surprise when the fight ended in a draw. A rematch is on the cards for early next year at the next BLCC show.

The show always provides a good opportunity for the Clubs youngsters to gain experience in familiar surroundings and this year was no exception. Jacob Spencer, Zoe Spencer, Tommy Paine, Jack Truswell, Ben Langley, Eli Frettingham, Katrina Signey and Charlie Mellor all competed and put in commendable performances showing great skill and high levels of fitness
In addition the Luke Gladwin other seniors competing were Paul Wilkinson and Jon Green. Jon put in another amazing performance in only his second competitive bout and is already looking a possible title contender for the future.
New members are always welcome at the club whether it is to compete or to keep fit. The club is based in their own gym including a fully equipped fitness room at the rear of John Hadfield House, Dale Road, Matlock – for details contact Mark Ball on 07825 876177
